Cotton Robin

I had participated in an Internet exchange called the "Cotton Robin" for three years. Each participant would make a center block and mail it to the moderator, Julie Waldman.  Julie would then mail out the blocks with a list of others who would add three more borders and then the last person would bind and quilt the mini quilt and mail it back to the original creator. I have given you the link to the blog which will be explained a lot better than I am doing.
The last exchange I took part in was 2013...and my quilt got lost somewhere between Canada, New Zealand and to me here in Texas!  It was so long that Julie was getting the gang together to make another quilt for me!  Someone made a center block and mailed it to Julie...but before they could get it going, my quilt showed up!
Cotton Robin 2013
I am so glad it did make it to me because I really love the final results!
Anyway, Julie mailed the block back to the original maker and eleven of us decided to take that block and make a quilt for Julie for all she does for this exchange!  I know that I would not have the patience to do all that planning she does! So I wanted to show the quilt that we made for her. The exchange Cotton Robins were under 20 inches.  By the time we all worked on this one for Julie, it turned out to be about 78"!  Amazing what a world-wide collaboration can do!!

This is the label that I made for the quilt.
I didn't participate in the current Cotton Robin for personal reasons, but I hope to be involved next year if Julie continues moderating it!!!

Cotton Robin 2013

A few months ago I signed up for this year's Cotton Robin Challenge/Exchange.  We make a center block and send it to the moderator.  She sets up the schedule and mails the center blocks with addresses of where your block goes next.  So when one gets someone else's block, they add one border and mail it on to the next person on the list.  Then the next person adds another border and mails it to the "finisher"!  The finisher quilts it and adds a binding then mails it back to the original center block maker.
My Center Block and extra fabric
This is my center block and some extra fabric I sent to be used if wanted...not a necessary item. We also sent a list of our likes and dislikes concerning quilting/fabric.

Somewhere from Canada to New Zealand, my block which was all done except for the finishing, disappeared!!  In not wanting to hold everyone up for the "reveal", the moderator asked that some of the group offer to make a quilt for me!  Very nice of everyone...My block/quilt was about two months overdue!!  Well, just as the group was preparing to get another one ready for me...my quilt showed up in New Zealand...and after finishing it, it was mailed to me.  I received it today!!!  And it is really lovely!!!  I wish it could talk and tell us just WHERE has it been?????
Horizontal center block orientation
Vertical Center Block Orientation
Now...my only decision is how to display it...with the center block vertical or horizontal...Help me out, readers!!!  Give me your "vote"!!!!!

Cotton Robins

The Round Robin (AKA Cotton Robin)....that I had joined several months ago is finally completed.  There were fifteen of us from all over the world...We created a 8"-9" block which we sent to  Floribunda who set up a schedule for us to receive, add to, and mail on...until we got our own block back..completed...quilting and binding finished!  Julie just posted on the Cotton Robin blog that the quilts have all reached their homes and she will be posting pictures of all of them! (see the blog on my side bar.)

Meanwhile....I want to show you what I was working on and how beautifully my little block came to be...from a cocoon to a butterfly!!!

The first block I received in the mail...I added one border

After I added a border.

The next block...I added a second border...I forgot to take a
picture before I started to add..the vertical polka dots.

And after I added the second border.

The third block/completed quilt

I quilted, added the binding, and embellishments.  The original
creator had a center block with a dragonfly on it...because I had
quilted over it, I decided to make her a three dimensional one!
My little block which I mailed out.

And my little block returned to me ...transformed!!!

This was really a fun challenge....all those involved did wonderfully on each quilt block that they received!  I am anxious to see all of them completed on the Cotton Robin blog!
